Fact and Opinion

A Fact is a statement that can be proved.
An Opinion is a statement of feeling or belief tha cannnot be proved.

Tip:
Some words tha signal an opinion are should, must, best, worst, I think, and I believe

Draw Conclusions

Readers use information from the story along with what they know from real life.

Drawing conclusion helps readers understand what happens in a story, and why.

Tip: As you read, ask yourself, What has the author told me?
What do I need to figure out for myself? What do I know about people to help me understand each of the character's actions.

Grammar

Subject and Object Pronouns
Subject pronouns take place of one or more nouns in the subject of a sentence.
EX: singular- I, you, he, she , it / Plural- we, you, they
Object pronouns must be used after the action verb or after the preposition
EX:singular-me, you, him, her, it/ Plural- us, you , them

Possessive Pronouns
A word that take place of a possessive noun.

Pronouns
- a word that takes the palce of one or more nouns.

An antecedent is the noun or nouns to which the pronoun refers.

Singular possessive-
>add 's
ex. boat-boat's
Plural possessive-
>No s add 's
bex. oys- boys'
>ends with an s , form possesive by s'
ex. geese- geeses's

Dependent and Independent Clauses
Independent clauses can stand alone with both a subject and verb.
Dependent clause can not stand on it's own. It does not express a complete thought.
Ex: although, becasue, that, when, which

Prepositional Phrases
Shows how a noun or pronoun is related to another word int eh sentence.
Ex: by, to, from, in for, at after, over, under, with, on, across, and through

Object of a preposition
It is the noun or pronoun that follows the prepositon.

Prepositional Phrase
It is made up a preposition, teh object of the presposition, and any any other words in between

Simple and Compound Sentence
A simple sentence is a group of words that describes one thought.
A compound sentence is two or more simple sentences connected by a comma and a conjunction
and, or, but, or for
Ex: We can go to the mall, or we can go to the movies.
